It feels very strange not to put up a blog post every day after having done so for the past few months; however, as of late I have been notoriously busy. Although I have posts lined up, I prioritize sleep over getting the blog up. So, I have made the decision to revert to putting up a blog post once per week until the stress of working and living my intense life has calmed down to the point that I can re-enter the blogging field. However, I will be putting updates on my Tumblr for all to see regularly. For now, dear readers, please bear with me as I work to check off all the boxes on my very long to-do list.

Break!
Monday, July 18, 2011
I'm taking a little break from blogging for the beginning of this week - I spent my week driving across the state, attending fancy fundraisers, and overthinking everything, so rest assured that I will be back with great insight in the next few days!
P.S.
Although my blog is currently not being updated as much, my Tumblr has a lot of great media for you to absorb. Go forth into the vast internet!

Pause

This week has been a hard one for posting. Since I have just moved back to Washington, I have been fighting to adjust to a concrete schedule, so I have made the decision to stop posting until next week. I will definitely come back stronger and ready with regular posts and maybe even some new work!
Until then, please enjoy this video about cat herding:
Regular Posts Will Resume Tomorrow
Monday, May 2, 2011
Today marks the last day of classes in my sophomore year (and our fabulous Well Woman end-of-the-year dinner!), so I will not be putting up a post tonight and will start up again tomorrow. See you all then!
Project Check-In: Finding Work
Tuesday, March 22, 2011
Over spring break, I spent most of my days listening to podcasts, watching movies, eating junk food, and basically morphing into a typical suburban teenager for just a week. No work, no classes, nothing but self-managed time...
But, after all that amorphous time to do nothing, I have to get back to the real world. Especially at Barnard, we are constantly asked to be productive and forward-thinking. Right now, I am working on emailing people, sending applications, and basically hoofing it to get some work in Seattle for the summer and perhaps an internship for the fall. Will it work out? All I can do is hope. And, being without a ton of experience yet, it seems like hope is all I can ever do.
Anyone who has tips on being pro-active and staying motivated through the application process, please send them along in the comments. I would definitely appreciate it!
Read some of my own answers to the productivity question.

I am going to be heading out to Seattle tomorrow in the wee hours of the morning - I hope it's a good uneventful flight that I can sleep on! Hello spring break!
In the meantime, check out some of my creative projects to bridge the gap.

Working On It

It's been pretty quiet on the blog front these days. But never fear! I am just in the process of updating my blog space to something fantastic and cool. See you when it finally premiers!
All's Quiet Without the Internet...
Wednesday, November 24, 2010
The internet in our building has been off for a full day and then some, and I have found one great, and somewhat predictable, observation: the internet provides a lot of background entertainment.
I think that the internet is really important, even integral, in our computer-oriented college and country. It's a total privilege and you realize that once it's gone, you feel a little bit lost. You're looking for it, you're going through minor withdrawal symptoms, and you're feeling the lack of privilege.
I don't think that it's strange to be dependent on the internet for a lot of things; I use it to connect with people I can't see every day and look up interesting subjects and, of course, goof off on Facebook. But I think that lacking the internet frustrates me more than it should. I get a deep annoyance at the inability of our tech support to provide me with what I consider a "necessary service."
And then there's the paradox: I went an entire weekend at SOCLR without internet orcell phone access, so why am I upset now?
It's possible to blame the Barnard community, or my own lack of talent at amusing myself, but I think that there's another reason. A more serious reason: we're addicted to the privilege. Having something without having to think about it. Electing to give it up. It's given to us all as part of the deal.
In other aspects of my life, I've been industrious and attempted to realize my own privileges and lack thereof, but in this internet blackout I can't ignore the simple truth that I have been brought up to expect a certain level of comfort and am perturbed when it is taken away.

Since then, I've gotten better at amusing myself. So, check out some posts about creative ways to use your time (most of them not using the internet!)

Sorry everyone, my building went out so regular posting will resume tomorrow! Hopefully...
In the meantime, check out some posts on creative ways to use your time (often without the presence of the internet!).

Outage
Saturday, May 9, 2009
I think that, this month, I am going to give myself an unconventional break from blogging. I am not feeling up to posting my life right now - I want to write it down and squirrel it away because nothing feels right to put out there. I never have the perfect, silly, stupid thing to say. So I'll wait till next month: meet me there!
In the meantime, check out some of my popular posts such as a photographic journey into the anime convention SakuraCon, an article about single-sex education, and a list some of my favorite places on the web.
