I'm Back! And Launching my Patreon

Wednesday, August 2, 2017

I'm back! The last you heard of me, in late February, I was setting out my goals for the coming months and trying to strategize how to use my limited time/resources. I thought that I would be able to get a blog post up monthly and planned for my next one to be in late March - March and August are about the same, right?

2017 has been a year to shake things up. I've started my own independent doula business and am coming out of the woods with my novel project. I committed to training for roller derby and actually feel (sort of) confident on skates. I've got a lot going on, but that also means I've got a lot to share! So, in hopes of returning to that goal I set out months ago, I'm returning to a regular writing practice at this space.

I'm also launching my Patreon campaign today! Many of you may already know what I do, but in case you're new here or just want to hear my voice, I've made a little video for you. Bonus: you get to see my cat photobomb me at the end. Enjoy the video and watch this space for more words to come.

In case you couldn't make it to the Meet Me at the Race Riot zine event, here is a complete videocast of it for your enjoyment:

How to Make a Micro-Mini Zine

Wednesday, November 16, 2011

I'm going to be doing a zine reading tonight at an event called Meet Me at the Race Riot: Women of Color in Zines from 1990 to Today (which, if you're in the NYC area, you should come to - check out the Facebook event for more information).

As I was folding my zines for the event, I got extremely excited! So excited, in fact, that I thought I'd make a video in celebration - so for all you folding wizards/witches out there, here is my tutorial on how to make a micro-mini zine (a 16-page mini-booklet made out of just 1 sheet of 8.5x11):

You can access the micro-mini zine layout on my Archive.org page. And check out some of my zines, including The Bearniverse, there too!

What Does Progress Mean to You?

Saturday, August 27, 2011

A video on progress that I edited for the Washington Bus. Animations and all.

I've made it! The long haul to the East Coast is finished, which means two things:

1. I will be resuming regular daily blog content tomorrow.
2. I am thinking endlessly about how to make myself more connected to this NYC community as I have during the summer to my Seattle community.

As I prepare for both of those things (as well as the coming hurricane), I will be thinking a lot about progress and change. Hence, I present to you a video I edited on what progress means to each of the Summer Fellows in my program over the summer. This video is reposted from the Hella Bus blog. Enjoy!

CED Round-Up: Seattle Pride Parade!

Thursday, June 30, 2011

This week was event-filled and awesome, so a lot of the work I was doing happened outside - particularly at the Seattle Pride Parade, in which I fanatically snapped pictures of everything from the Washington Bus Summer Fellows to the amazing outfits that people adorned. Check it out after the jump - and yes, there will be dancing.

How to Value Your Work

Wednesday, June 29, 2011

This summer, I set myself the goal of going multi-media with the blog, so I am excited to present my first vlog post! The subject is valuing your artistic work and bringing it together with your identities. I apologize that there is currently no transcript because I did not yet have time to create one. After the jump, you can read some fast facts about the video-making process. Enjoy!
